Schooling in Wainuiomata

The first school was Wainuiomata Primary school it was founded in 1857, which is just after the village and just before the start of the Coast Road.
It  was built it 1880's and was the only school until the 1940's 1950's.
The old school building is still standing it is now a museum which is open on Sunday's 2pm - 4pm.

There are now 6 primary schools in Wainuiomata which still includes Wainuiomata Primary the others are Arakura, Fernlea, Konini (which was once called Parkway), Pukeatua (which was once called Glendale), St Claudine Thevenet, there is also a combine Primary Intermediate College  which is called Hutt Valley Christain School.

Wainiuiomata Primary is both the largest Primary school and the oldest in Wainuiomata having a role of 362(based on June 2011 roll numbers), the others being:
St Claudine Thevent: 272
Konini: 268
Pukeatua: 267
Fernlea: 226
Arakura: 197
Hutt Valley Christain School: 11

There are several  Primary Schools that merged with other Primary Schools so they do not exist anymore.

 The first College and Intermediate were built in 1950's and follow by a second College and Intermediate called Parkway College and Parkway Intermediate.

But in  January the 1st 2002 the two Colleges and two Intermediate were merged as one College called Wainuiomata High School and one Intermediate simple called Wainuiomata Intermediate.
Wainuiomata High School has Roll 950 students, and Wainuiomata Intermediate has a roll of 362 students.
