The first church in Wainuiomata was Methodish Church which is at the beginning of the Coast Road it was built in 1863 it was the second oldest church in Wellington, the timber was supplied by Richard Prouse.

One of the early local preacher at the church was John Jacobson who came from Petone to conduct the service on the sundays. The church is now not in used only for weddings and funerals.
There are now many churches and different denominations in Wainuiomata such as the Baptist Church, Life City Church, St Patrick Catholic, The first Congregational Christan Church in Samoa, Church of the Nazarene, Holy Trinity, Reformed Church of Wainuiomata,
